Shipping as a solo dev
I’m one person. Client work, FightClub, learning, sleep. Here’s how I keep it from collapsing.
Mornings are for client work
I do anything billable before noon. Fresh head, no Slack debt. The first task of the day is always the hardest task of the day.
Afternoons for FightClub
FightClub is my long bet. I work on it in the afternoons — usually one focused 3-hour block. That’s enough to move it forward without starving the freelance pipeline.
Evenings are off (mostly)
I learn one new thing per week — a library, a pattern, a new model — and I do it after dinner. Low pressure, no deliverable. Half the time I forget it. The other half it ends up in a client project six months later.
The rule that holds it all up
One thing at a time. No multitasking, no context-switching between projects within the same hour. When I break this rule, the day is wasted. When I keep it, I ship.
